03 / 07Migrate & upgrade

From the Odoo you have to a version you can build on.

Migrate & upgrade is the work of moving your Odoo to a current version under control, with its customizations and its data. An upgrade is also the moment to decide what to keep.

When you need it

  • Your Odoo version is no longer supported, and nobody wants to touch it.
  • Custom modules block the upgrade, and the people who wrote them are gone.
  • The business needs something that a newer version offers.
  • You are moving to Odoo from another system, and the data has to come with you.
  • The data carries duplicates and errors that each report repeats.

Application

Migrate & upgrade.

An Odoo version ages. The custom modules written for it stay behind, the data collects errors, and the step to a current version grows longer.

Some custom modules are still needed. Some can be replaced, because a newer version may already cover them. Some can be retired.

The same work applies when you arrive from another system and your data has to come with you.

What we do

  • Version upgrades, from legacy Odoo to a current version.
  • Review of legacy customizations: what to port, what to rebuild, what to retire.
  • Database migration and data cleanup.
  • Moves between Community and Enterprise, where that is the right step.
  • Architecture review before the move.
  • A controlled cutover from the old system to the new one.

How it connects

A cutover touches the business layer first. It has to fit around month-end closing, peak season and stock counts. The areas it affects are on the Odoo page.

On the application layer, customizations that need rebuilding belong to Build & customize. Integrations have to be checked against the new version, which is Connect.

On the platform layer, a new version runs in its own environment before it replaces the old one. That environment is built through Deploy and operated in Run. An upgrade that was started and did not finish is a case for Rescue.
